Dear Prospective Member,

Thank you for expressing an interest in joining the Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad (CVRS). Please read the following instructions carefully before submitting your application.

To complete the initial application process, you must:

1. Complete the application for membership. When completing the application, you MUST attach a copy of your DMV driving record that is no more than 30 days old. You may also email a copy of your current driving record to courtlandrescuepresident@gmail.com. You can request a copy of your driving record by going to https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/onlineServices/ and clicking on "Record Request" under Driver/ID Services.

2. Email the applicant reference form to 3 personal references so that it can be completed as soon as possible and not delay the application process.

3. Submit a photocopy of your current driver's license to courtlandrescuepresident@gmail.com. If you do not have a driver's license, please include a copy of a current learner's permit, DMV issued identification card, or other official government issued identification.

4. Read the General Rules in their entirety. You can find a copy of the General Rules at the bottom of this page.

NOTE: All applicants to Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad must submit to a criminal background check. Upon acceptance to the squad, directions for how to complete the background check will be provided to you.

CVRS is committed to providing opportunities to qualified individuals regardless of race, religion, creed, gender, or age (15 or over). The nature of the work we do and various laws, however, do necessitate that we establish certain standards, qualifications, and requirements for members and applicants. The following summarizes the most relevant requirements:

  • Good Character: All members of a rescue squad must be of good character. Criminal background and reference checks are conducted on all applicants. Any past history will be reviewed by our membership committee and may result in ineligibility to join the squad.

  • Responsible: Our members must be dependable and be able to make critical decisions under pressure. This criteria is evaluated through the use of reference checks, interviews, and a probationary membership period.

  • Ability to Communicate: Members must be able to read, write, and speak English at a suitable level of fluency. The ability to speak other languages (especially Spanish) is also desirable.

  • Education: We require a high school diploma or equivalent for membership. Junior members are exempt from this requirement, but are required to maintain a "C" average and not be failing any course at any time during their membership.

  • Health and Physical Fitness: Membership in the squad does NOT require an exceptionally high level of physical fitness. Members must, however, be physically able to safely perform the required tasks.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING POLICIES COMPLETELY AND CAREFULLY BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION.
